Fixing up my Bike
I got this really cool old bike. It is a Schwinn Varsity in the campus green color made in Chicago Illinois in November 1972. That's right. This bike is 53 years old this month. So far I have taken it on atleast 4 successful fishing adventures. One time I rode to the IDOT pond and caught 3 catfish. The other times I was closer and fishing for bass. Anyway, the bike is in good shape but I can make it better. Currently it does not shift gears the cables just aren't attached. I think I can fix that relatively easily. Afterwall I redid the brake cables and that was ok. I could go for a new front brake as I dont have one currently but I dont necessarily need it. The bike could use some rust treatment. No really bad spots but would be nice to get it all off and polish the bike or wax it or whatever prevents rust. Also there was a little shelf on the back of the bike but it is cracked. I would need to weld that back together. Might need someone else to do that. I will document my progress here.
Cold Frame
I have these old windows. Basically the idea is I build a little raised bed frame that has an angle. I attach the windows at the top and it works like a tiny greenhouse. It should make it so that I can grow some things in the cold. I think I could do this when I am off for Thanksgiving. These windows have been sitting for a long time.
Hydroponic System
I am going to get a new hydroponic system going. It is 5 quart glass jars. I think I will use kratky method which I think just means no air stone or pump. I will be growing spinach and lettucel. I want to try to use no chemicals or more likely only worm compost tea aka the liquid at the bottom of my worm bucket. It will be really cool if it works good because it is drastically less plastic involved than my first hydroponic system. This is actually already built I just have to start the seeds and rig the light to the timer. Stay tuned.
